The Location of Pethor

According to Shalmneser III, Pethor, or Pitru was located at the confluence of the Sajur and the Euphrates, just east of present-day Aamârné, Syria, some 11 miles S of Carchemish (around  36°40’4″N,  38° 5’23″E). It is now underwater and, therefore, cannot be excavated.
