According to this article, the Roman columns used by the Fatimids in their fortifications at Ashkelon were made of Aswan granite. The Roman columns photographed by Moller were those of the Severan basilica. I have also suggested parallels between the columns of the Severan Samarian colonnade and the Nuweiba column. Moller has confirmed my view.
