  1. I read an illuminating article (through MR, I think) about the differences between Al Qaeda and ISIS. Interesting parallels:

Cruz is like Al Qaeda (principled), Trump is like ISIS (pragmatic). Obama (ashamed of Muslim connections) created ISIS, GOP establishment (ashamed of conservative connections) created Trump.

Probably more, this is just what came to me just now off the top of my head.

    1. Yes, Obama created ISIS, but how did the GOPe create Trump?

ISIS, unlike AQ, has no screening process, is trying to build a state, and considers attacking the West a secondary mission. It also uses more blunt tactics more quickly.

      1. Remember, Trump wasn’t a leader of Republican voters until about a year ago when he picked up the $100 bill the GOPe left on the ground. Ask yourself, could the Trump phenomenon have happened if over the past 5 decades the GOPe had been actually fighting against mass immigration, political correctness, etc.?

Anyway, I don’t claim my analogy is fully pervasive, only that there are some interesting parallels.
