  1. 4. I heard Rush talking about this today too. Not sure I get it. I’ll try to parse the logic of what I see happening using an imaginary dialog. I kinda play the role of person A and an Alt Right stereotype is kinda person B:

A; What’s so special about this story?

B: The liberal LA Times assumed Trump’s HQ would be a bunch of old white racist guys, but when the reporter went there it turned out it was a vibrant diversity-fest.

A: So what? Does that mean you want a vibrant diversity-fest all of a sudden?

B: Of course not, but it’s fun to watch the LA Times (and liberals in general, by proxy) squirm in frustration and disbelief at the realization that plenty of minorities support Trump.

A: Are you sure they’re frustrated? Let’s say Trump’s SoCal HQ really is normally that diverse; it doesn’t change the fact that in general, Trump’s support is indeed mostly white guys. Liberals aren’t just going to forget that and change their perception.

B: But facts aren’t important to the way narratives get tossed around and influence public opinion. A high-profile story like this throws a wrench in the gears of the Leftist Machine painting Trump as only appealing to white racists and therefore not worthy of swing votes.

A: I get that, but I don’t see it having much effect. They’re just going to claim it was staged diversity anyway, which makes Trump look even worse. Why cede the moral high ground on diversity and vibrancy? I thought the Alt Right was going to be the movement that finally stood up and said “Yeah we’re a bunch of non-diverse white guys, and we’re totally fine with that.”

B: There’ll be plenty of time for that later. Right now we have to focus on getting Trump into office.

A: But the Alt Right is bigger than campaign support for a cocky billionaire. It has challenging ideas! Intellectual depth! …Or, I thought it did…

B: Look, I have few pleasures in life. Just shut up and let me enjoy this.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if Donald Trump destroyed the Alt Right?
